You can easily tell when I’m happy by the fact that I’ve gained weight. My happy weight changes. Sometimes I eat more; sometimes I play more. I’ll be different sizes all the time, like a modern day shape shifter. Whenever I feel sad, I go to my happy place. The fridge.
Fitness is like marriage. You can’t cheat on it and expect it to work. My body does this thing where if I get over the acceptable weight limit, I automatically fall sick and dry up. The illness will last until I get back to my allowed weight. I don’t know if there’s a scientific term for this activity. Surely I’m not alone?

When you lose all excuses, you’ll find results. Weight doesn’t creep up on you, you literally see it happening. You don’t suddenly look at yourself in the mirror and go ‘Woah!’ The hard part is shedding. Everything else might go except the belly fat. True happiness is fitting into a dress after losing weight. You suddenly feel like buying a standing mirror.
Enjoy losing weight. Enjoy eating healthy, delicious food. Don’t wait until you reach your destination to feel good. Don’t be ashamed to take those progress photos and post them. I promise to keep laughing at you to keep you motivated. Take as much joy as you can from your weight loss journey.
If you really want to stay healthy you have to start where you are, use what you have and do what you can. Looking after your health today gives you a better hope for tomorrow. As I got older, I realized that some people didn’t care anymore about tomorrow. They let tomorrow worry about itself. Smart thinking? Hardly.
For health concerns, a close friend of mine was asked to lay off fried chicken. He was encouraged to eat vegetables instead. In the end it was too much for him. What kind of life would you live if you couldn’t have a piece of fried chicken every now and then? If I need to eat only veggies to stay alive, that’s my cue to pull the plug. I’m here for both the good time …. and the long time.
Who says I can’t have both?
