Life Is Hard

Why is life hard? You come into the world with nothing, and the purpose of your life is to make something out of nothing. The first five days after the weekend are always the hardest.  You see, life is like diarrhea. No matter how hard you try and stop it. The shit just keeps coming. And I know from experience that there is nothing harder than pooping when you don’t have to poop. I just wish my life had background music so I could understand what the hell is going on.

Life is hard, it’s harder if you’re stupid. The phrase “Nothing is impossible” suddenly sounds like a challenge.  Some people can’t take a hint. I’m having a terrible day and you come to sit beside me in the library trying to have a conversation? Read the freaking room! Plus can’t you see that I have my headphones plugged in and I’m not even playing any music? Just go away! Next time a stranger talks to you when you’re alone, just look at them shocked and whisper, “You can see me?”

It’s hard being human. It’s harder if you have trust issues. People that have trust issues only need to look in the mirror. There they will meet the one person that will betray them the most. Those who are critical don’t like being criticized, and those who are insensitive have a deficiency in their senses. Surprises are everywhere in life. And they usually come from misjudging people for being less than they appear. That cab driver that dropped you off is a big man in his hometown. It’s leisure for him.

Life is hard but when you fall, pick yourself up and say, “Who the hell pushed me?”. Sometimes I just want someone to hug me and say, “I know it’s hard. You are going to be okay. Here’s a cup of coffee. And five million dollars.” It hasn’t happened yet, and that pretty much explains the rot in everyone I have in my circle. Other people get surprise vacations from their friends when they’re feeling low, my friends just call me and we bitch about the economy for five hours and that’s it.

My life feels like a test I didn’t study for.  It’s funny you know,  you spend twelve years of your life learning about things and life, but they never really tell you how hard life is. They teach you that money can’t buy happiness. And it’s true, the hardest thing to find in life is happiness. Money is only hard to find because it gets wasted trying to find happiness.  But you can’t deny that there is something therapeutic about wiping your tears with 100 dollar bills.

In the end, everyone is facing their demons. Life doesn’t have any hands, but it can sure slap you up sometimes. Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that who cares? He’s a mile away and you’ve got his shoes! Cinderella is proof that a new pair of shoes can change your life.  When life shuts a door, open it again. It’s a door. That’s how they work. The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.

Hate no one, no matter how much they’ve wronged you. Live humbly, no matter how wealthy you become. Think positively, no matter how hard life is. Give much, even if you’ve been given little.  Forgive all, especially yourself.  And never stop praying for the best for everyone.  When life gives you lemons, freeze them, and throw them as hard as possible at the people making your life difficult. And remember, don’t take life too seriously…

You won’t get out of it alive

    Love it.

    Superlative blog!

Funny, in the interest of having a Soundtrack for my life, I discovered the Shuffle feature on my Sonos, very 1st world discovery of course. So, I simply let IT be my James Horner and majestic French Horns in the Dances With Wolves landscape of my inspiring life. Well, and Halford and Grace Potter and Faunts and Jes and The Wonder Years and Beethoven and Alejandro Aranda and and and… can always click NEXT when it’s not the influence I’m feeling.

    To piggyback:
Someone once said to Voltaire, “Life is hard.” He chortled back, “Compared to WHAT?!”

Thanks for the scary mad wicked hilarity! There’s wisdom in the workability in that alone. Gotta go. I have a poll on my site to monitor to make sure people ARE breaking the rules and voting multiple times. Otherwise their vote doesn’t count. It’s a New Mexico Voting Model I picked up when there. Vote early and often. 😉

Oh, and on the door? Yes. Open it. It’s a dafuqin door. If that doesn’t work, the Architect in me suggests DEMO, Remodel. Ahhhh, got right in.

      1. Lol, it closed at 9:09p EST. 🙂 You can certainly break it now after the doors were locked. I won’t prosecute you for breaking and entering. And, the cash is under the register. Don’t break the glass as that stuff’s expensive. I’m sure you can find a key under one of the rocks by the door.

  2. Hello there! This is the first blog I’ve had an opportunity to read. Close your eyes if you can and feel my arms stretching across the miles giving you and very tender hug. Yes, life can be hard. I graduated from the school of hard knocks with honors. I am 57 and spent my first for decades feeling life was too hard to live and everything was everyone else’s fault! I woke up one day in my early 40’s and realized that everything I go through has the potential to help me learn something valuable, if only I will search for it. Now I do everything I can to find the positive in every situation. Sometimes I think pulling healthy teeth without any tools would be a lot easier. I just know that when I manage to find the good, it makes me feel much better. It took my years to find the good in the loss of my baby before she had a chance to be born. One day, I realized it had given me the opportunity to be there for other women who had suffered the loss of an unborn child at a time when they felt so alone. Most of them didn’t know anyone who had suffered such a loss so they had to cope with hearing all those cliche things people say when they don’t know what else to say. Please don’t misunderstand – I am not looking for sympathy. I am only hoping that the coping mechanism I found for myself might have a chance of working for you. It certainly changed how I looked at life. Yes, I still think life is really frigging hard sometimes. When my trauma helps a hopeless person make it through the night, I somehow find a way to be grateful for the hard/crappy things which changed my life. It may not work for you so I am sending lots of extra hugs!! I hope things get easier. You never know what’s behind that closed door. Good luck.

    1. Oh this hug feels absolutely wonderful 😄.

Find a positive in every situation. Gotcha

Oh that must have been tough, glad you found a purpose.

Haha, you’re alright. My coping mechanism is humor but I’ll try yours out.

Thanks again for the hugs, I’m sending some back 💜

Cheers and have a lovely day

  3. Gottfried, have you ever done stand-up? I think that you would be great! After the pandemic of course, or maybe on YouTube. You already have a lot of good material in this one post. That way, when life gives you lemons…you can turn them into cash! I once saw Chris Rock in the early days of his career performing on a cruise ship. I was shocked by his language, but that was tame by today’s standards, so no worries, you can let it rip!

    All the best! Cheryl

    1. Haha, I’ve been getting a lot of these lately. And you just might be on to something!

I do know that it’s a lot harder than it seems, but I’ll give it some thought.

Thank you, this is really high praise 😁
