Nigeria’s first speaker of the House of Representatives, Jaja Anucha Wachukwu. Born to the Royal family of Ngwa land in Abia state. He was named after the Great King Jaja of Opobo.
Jaja will be remembered for many things. He reportedly slept through an International Conference as a representative from Nigeria. In recent times, he’s had disciples like Olusegun Obasanjo, Nyesom Wike and Godwin Obaseki all of whom slept during conferences.
They blamed it on the imperfections of the human body😂. Jaja was confident and often controversial in his submissions, he once declined an invitation to a dinner in Europe, because he was addressed “poorly“. He was right though, after all, he was true Royalty.
He made headlines at the time though, when he claimed that Lagos was “no man’s land”. It sparked public outrage and almost led to communal clashes. Jaja often bragged about possessing the largest private library in Africa at the time, which in itself, is no small feat.
Interestingly, he was released from detention, post-civil war, by a certain Theophilus Danjuma. A man alleged to have killed Nigeria’s first Head of State. We all love and respect The pride of Ngwa Land.

So he is both the eccentric “Great King Jaja of Opobo” and the sleepy “speaker of the House of Representatives”? Usually a man achieves one or the other, but not both.

Well I have no idea who this person is, but I do have to admit a certain degree of admiration for anyone who sleeps through conferences.
